For a long time, I thought belonging would arrive through finding the right people. A close-knit friendship group. A partner. A community where everyone shared the same values.
•
But life has shown me that people are wonderfully complex.
The people who love travel... may not love deep conversation. The people who share our hobbies... may not share our outlook on life. The people we enjoy spending time with... may not always understand us in the way we hope.
And perhaps that is where some of the disappointment comes from.. We expect belonging to feel complete .. instead, we find pieces of it ..
A conversation with a neighbour. A coffee with a friend. A shared laugh with someone we have only recently met. A moment where we feel seen.
These moments can feel small at the time, yet they stay with us... So, perhaps belonging is not about finding one person or one group that fulfils every part of us.
'Perhaps it is about.. collecting these moments along the way.'

Allowing people to add something to our lives, without expecting them to be everything.. Finding comfort in the connections that are present, rather than grieving the ones that do not exist..

I still don't know exactly where I belong.. Some days I feel deeply connected to the world around me.. Other days I feel like an observer standing just outside the circle..
But I am beginning to wonder if..
belonging is not a destination at all..
Maybe belonging is simply .. 'the feeling that grows when we continue to show up as ourselves, gather the people who matter, and create a life that feels like home.'
And perhaps that is enough 🤍
