Studio Letter No. 1

When a Studio Begins to Take Shape

How creativity, quiet reflection and gathered stories slowly began to shape Sotto Studio.

FROM SOTTO STUDIO
Reflective letters with string, leaves and ceramic mug.

Hello,

Sotto Studio began through creativity in many forms — clay, writing, photography, travel, natural texture and quiet reflection.

Each held a place in my life, but for a long time they lived apart.

Slowly, through making, observing and gathering stories along the way, these different interests began to reveal how they could belong together.

This is the origin story of the studio — the early chapters that shaped its purpose and the heart behind everything we share here.

Please enjoy...

CREATIVE BEGINNINGS

Creativity in More Than One Form

Pottery. Writing. Photography. Travel. The natural world.

Each an expression of the same creative impulse — to notice, to feel and to give form to what matters.
Different in practice, but connected in spirit.

Over time, these began to weave a quieter, more cohesive path.

Giving the Pieces Somewhere to Meet

The Studio Journal, Publications and Collections grew from this
understanding — different spaces, but shaped by the same values.

Each became a way to share what inspires, what I'm learning
and what I hope might resonate with you.

________

"Sometimes a studio begins before it has a name —
in the things we make, the stories we gather
and the details we keep returning to."

Why the name Sotto

Sotto means beneath — to me it speaks of
the quiet layers that hold the most meaning;
an approach that is understated, thoughtful and softly spoken.

A reminder to look closer and to value what is simple, natural and lasting.

You can read more in 'The Story' and in journal entries found in 'From the Studio'.

Quiet Pieces Together

Sotto Studio is where these pieces meet.
A place to create, to reflect and to share stories that celebrate
the beauty of handmade, the richness of nature and the poetry of everyday life.

Thank you for being here as these first pieces begin to gather.
Warmly,

Rachel
